Your Melbourne Pilot
Peter Wright
"Melbourne is a fantastic city and the best view of it is from my balloon basket!" says Peter, Picture This Ballooning’s Melbourne pilot. Peter is more than well qualified, having flown thousands of passengers in balloons for over 10 years in a number of locations throughout Australia, including Camden NSW, Victoria’s Yarra Valley and his hometown of Melbourne.
Peter has a love of all things aviation that began from a very early age. Reading books on aircraft and flying occupied the bulk of his time as a kid, but it is the gentle art of hot air ballooning that has captured his imagination as an adult. "It's the purest form of flying" he says, "but most of all I love the challenges and surprises ballooning gives me, challenges which are different every day". He has worked with Picture This Ballooning for many years and relishes the variety he experiences by flying our entire array of special shaped balloons in various locations across Australia.
Peter is also the Picture This Ballooning’s Chief Pilot and is responsible for all the aviation aspects of Picture This, from aircraft airworthiness and maintenance to pilot and crew training. His dedication to ballooning has seen him become a flying instructor and Advisory Committee member for the Australian Ballooning Federation, as well as Vice President of the Balloon Association of Victoria. When he is not working, he has a keen interest in competition ballooning and has achieved Top 10 finishes in the last two National Championships. He has also formed part of a competitive ballooning team which has competed at World Championship events in Austria and Japan.
Peter is a Melbourne boy born and bred. He loves the footy in winter and Melbourne’s parks, gardens and restaurants throughout the rest of the year. He lives to the north east of the city with his wife Catherine and daughter Isobel, and newest addition Samantha Rose who was born 25 April 2009.
